Sipping Absinthe :) Watchin' Movies

Recommended Posts

Actually Abs was one of the Klowns, but nobody knows which one. They loved him on set because he needed the least amount of make up, as that's how he looks normally(most days out of the week).

On a pre-Code Hollywood kick; just watched Mervyn LeRoy's obscure 1934 downer, Heat Lightning, courtesy of Warner's burn-on-demand DVD service.

It boasts maybe the best dying line in the movies: "I... I... Aw, who cares?"

Oh, and Aline MacMahon is the man.

I thought 1934 was post-code, but perhaps it was filmed earlier?

The MPPDA (later the MPAA) actually adopted the Production Code in 1930, but didn't begin to enforce it in earnest until July 1, 1934. Heat Lightning was released on March 3, 1934, so it just squeaked in under the wire. No way it would have been released after the Breen office was in business, since it violates plenty of the Code's statutes. Well worth checking out!

Sliding in "Death Race 2000".

Carradine, Stallone, and what looks to be the bottom of a glass of VP. You know, every once in a while that Corman guy is alright.

Don't know what to drink next, but I'll come up with something. ;)
