Greetings from Örebro, Sweden.

Hello kids!

I guess it's time for a brief introduction of myself after lurking around here for a wee bit.

I'm 27 years old and i am 50% Swede, 50% Scotsman.

I guess i've always had an interest for Absinthe since i was a teenager, though luckily my knowledge on the subject has expanded a great deal since my teens (yes, i thought that the whole burning of the sugarcube abomination was a part of the Absinthe ritual).

I also started with all of the stupid misconceptions that surround Absinthe, which i guess everyone here are aware of.

After enduring the horrible taste of czech and german "absinthes" served at poncy goth parties being told that this was THE REAL STUFF and *insert stoner dude voice if you want to* "woah boy strange shit happens when you drink it maaan" .

I guess I started to wonder if there REALLY didn't get any better than that, and that i'd have to put up with moronic Mansonites, and silly Goths if i wanted to explore the world of the Fée Verte any further.

Since then i thought it was hopeless, that Absinthe was a pure poser drink for lame wannabes. And that the REAL stuff was banned.

Thankfully my dear friend Mikael Norell beknownest to some here under the Alias "Mindshifter" was gracious enough to share some of his treasures with me and let me have taste of the REAL stuff, for which i am most greatful since it made me realize that there was so much more to this wonderful beverage than Fat goths and crappy Czech "Absinthe".

Hopefully my journey into the world of Absinthe has only begun and that it will be an enjoyable and rewarding ride.

If anyone wants to suggest any brands of Absinthe that i should check out, i'm all ears.

The brands i've tasted are:

Absinthe Duplais

Blanche Traditionelle (Brut d'Alambic)

Kübler 57

Un Emile 68

François Guy

Have a good one.

M

Welcome! Michael is sure to point you in the right direction.

Take a look through the 'What are you drinking tonight' thread. That should give you plenty of good ideas, absinthe and otherwise.

Cheers!

Shabba, that is too cruel. You told him to read the 290 page thread. I guess we'll hear from him in three weeks.

A little light reading to catch him up on the goings on of the green fiends.

My wife, who is Japanese, says "what's the difference?"

I think Billy Connolly explained it best during his stand up when he described the Irish (such as myself) as pinkish, while the Scottish are more of a pale blue. In fact, that specific stand up show was titled "Pale Blue Scottish Person".

Welcome to WS!

Actually, I think that the two threads "if price was no object" and "if price was an object" summarize the discussion of the best absinthes to sample in all price ranges, and those threads are much shorter than the other one is.

Welcome aboard, Spiderprint

What did you think of the Brut d'Alambic?

Thanks!

Oh, I loved it! Very nice and fruity, heh, definitely a favourite.

Howdy.

I'm not sure if we have any goths here, but we have plenty of theatre geeks and........well, geeks in general.

Heh, suits me just fine.

Welcome to the group! I am 50% Scots myself, the other 50% being Irish. My wife, who is Japanese, says "what's the difference?"

Welcome! I'm new here myself. So far, it's been an education and a drunken laugh riot all rolled up into one.

Believe it or don't, over half my ex's are overweight goths, but none of them were into absinthe. Lucky for me I guess!

So what is the specific hue for the Welsh? Just so I don't look stupider than I am sometime.

Or is more clarified by spelling? ;)

I love Billy Connolly!

One of my favorite comedians. I've been scouring the earth trying to find either of his HBO specials, but no one has produced them for commercial sales. The closest I've found is a dvd that has a few minutes of clips from all of his performances over the years, but it's just not the same.

stoner dude voice

I would be interested to hear either Swedish or Scottish stoner voices. I only know NW and SW style stoner voices.

Welcome, anywho. Mindshifter is nice.

Varmt välkommen hit, broder!! It's about time you stepped out of the Wardrobe to enter the Real World.

As to brands selection, Bob's advice (this here and this) is a good start indeed. While Shabba's recommendation is very good too since it says the most about what folks here like to imbibe, it would definitely keep you busy for weeks.

Or, ah well; come over here soon again and we'll continue from where we finished last time. I think you are ready for the Balance now. Or maybe we should take one of the Jades before that. :)
