Appearance: A verdant green. Inviting peridot. No visible sediment.

Louche: Fully louched about 1.5:1. A cloudy green. Very nice, but not quite opalescent.

Aroma: An herbal punch! Wormwood up front with just a touch of anise. It's intriguing, but a bit unbalanced.

Flavor/Mouthfeel: A bit thin on the tongue, but still enjoyable. Minty and powerful with lots of wormwood. Astringency level is a bit higher than most, but not in a bad way. I'd like to see a bit more balance between the main herbs, but still quite nice.

Finish: Spicy! Lingers for several minutes. Warming down the throat, even at 3:1.

Overall: A great effort. Like all things Aussie, it's got a kick! But in a good way. A tad bit unbalanced, but I enjoy a wormwood forward absinthe. Glad to have a bottle!

Appearance: Reverie has a very clear light olive color that is obviously natural and very warm in tone.

Louche: The louche forms wonderfully and becomes a well layered and near perfect milkyness. The hues are visibly different and more blue around the meniscus. This is a near perfect louche if a tiny bit on the light side.

Aroma: A very unique wormwood forward scent that carries floral tones. The usual suspects of anise, fennel, and citrus like tones are present but more as supporting roles. The smells remind me of very fresh and humid herbs, as if being in a greenhouse of them. This is a pleasant and very unique aroma yet still correct.

Flavor: Much like the smell this is a very wormwood forward absinthe with slightly more bitter taste than most absinthes. The floral characteristics of the wormwood help it pop on the palate while the mouthfeel itself retains a smooth characteristic. The complex layers of other flavors make sure this is more than just a wormwood bomb and the cooling effects of green anise and wonderful fennel really help balance out the drink. However the astringency of the wormwood forward taste might turn away those who are used to a more rounded flavor. Not me though, I love it.

Finish: The finish sweetens up the taste a tiny bit while also revealing more citrus tones. The wormwood bitterness and astringency wins out and eventually dominates the finish in a surprisingly pleasant way.

Overall: This absinthe is definitely one to savor and sip. Reverie is one for the wormwood heavy fans but not without the redeeming quality of very well balanced botanicals in supporting roles for those who are not. The Aussies have definitely entered the world stage for top-tier absinthes with this one.
