I'm finishing my dinner wine [Moris Farms 2001 Morellino di Scansano], and making plans to whip up a hot buttered rum in a minute.

World Wide Stout 2009.

 

It's now down to a "paltry" 15%, but I think it's even better than the 18%. The body is still syrupy, but it's not as thick and grainy as it once was. There's also more discernible complexity with a palate of baker's chocolate, toffee, figs/dates, port, and most interestingly, grape skins...those esters add a tartness that I never detected at any other strength of WWS. This version is also just slightly drier than its predecessors, and somewhat more quaffable.

Great stuff. I still have a bit of the older stuff. Think I'll put some in the fridge, along with some Westvleteren I have left. Merry Christmas to me.

Sippin' on 2009 Barrel Aged Ivan the Terrible Imperial Stout from Big Sky Brewing.

 

Aroma and flavor of bourbon (very present, but not overdone), roasted cashews/macadamias, toasted coconut, real vanilla, and baker's chocolate. There's just enough bitterness for a nice balance, and the finish really builds on the palate in a very good way. Creamy mouthfeel, and firm in body, but not at all heavy, and extremely drinkable. Congratulations, Big Sky, you finally made the Big Leagues!

Nah, they've been Big League for years, cranking out some of the most delicious ale any brew artist would be proud to make. It's the rest of the beer world finally finding out. ;)

I am enjoying a orangecello and soda. Yum. OMfG yum. It is a near religious experience. Ranks up there with a good sneeze. Nice work Evil Twin! :heart:

You know, Kübler isn't that bad. Although the above mention of cognac makes me drool in anticipation of my first ever taste of Armagnac coming in the mail!!!

The Absinthe Suissesse is indeed delicious. I use the same recipe as yours, GB (I think it's pretty standard), but I add a liberal splash of club soda after shaking and straining. I find the drink a bit too heavy, otherwise. The soda gives it a little zing (like in the Ramos Gin Fizz) that seems appropriate given that the Suissesse was originally invented as a morning-after restorative.

 

Also, although I'm sure it's very good with La Coquette, I've found that you don't have to break out the good stuff for this drink. Lucid or Kübler work perfectly well, which is good news since you're using 1 1/2 to 2 ounces of the stuff.

 

Finally, I usually top mine off with a sprig of mint (very refreshing!), but I can't argue with freshly-ground nutmeg at this time of year.

 

You got my mouth watering; might be time to whip one up! It's almost 9am after all...
