Recommended Posts

Wow.. welcome to the "absinthe culture".. Tonights accoutrements included DP-WW, Pacifique, L'artisanale, and five, count em' 5 HG's, each discernible from the next, and each incredibly tasty.. I discovered tonight, that I got friends in high places.

Good times were had, indeed - GF, eric, myself, and another forum-less friend. Thanks to GF for bringing by his Pacifique; I had been wanting to try that one and it did not disappoint!

Dude, glad you found some fellow absintheurs in Austin to share with! It's always more fun to mix and drink with friends than to be drinking by myself or just my wife like i do. Not many absinthe drinkers in the Baytown area, and most of my friends can't stand the taste.

Oh well, more for me! *smirk*

Like I said, there are some good folks in Austin. Eric is aces in my book. He knows something about this fine drink as well. Glad you folks got together.....wish I'd have been there.

One of these days perhaps.

Yea, we had a good time. And in true small-world fashion, I arrived to find that one of kaseijin's other guests is someone I've worked with for years in the very next aisle. I could literally throw a stone at him... (but I won't).

It was nice to hang with both fellow beginners just getting into absinthe, as well as very experienced absintheurs, all at the same bottle-laden table. :drunk:

Eric definitely was a nice guy. In fact, everyone was nice. Nice drunks FTW!

Bill, I look forward to meeting you in "the future"!

Putting my Voyager to good use in a martini

I just got some proper orange bitters this week to replace the horrible Collins xit I picked up at the local liquor store, and I must say this is the most drinkable, delicious martini I've ever had!

Hell no.

It takes true beer porn like Midnight Sun's Berserker to elicit a reaction like that. :mbanana:

Did Jaz help with that? He should get Ridge cards made that say Dr. Gin.

My neighbor in Eugene, Oregon had business cards that listed his job title as International Man of Leisure. Consider something extraordinary for yours, Joe!

I couldn't agree more! Doc Jaz has been an excellent partner as has another friend with razor-sharp taste buds. We're not exactly where we want to be but damn close, I think.

You're right! Our cards just have just pretty pictures of Montana Rockies. I need a cool title, too. Maybe, Joe Legate, Minor God (in his own mind)!

Hahaha. You're so going to pay for that when she sees it.

My ex played Katherine in Taming of the Shrew.

World Wide Stout 2009.

It's now down to a "paltry" 15%, but I think it's even better than the 18%. The body is still syrupy, but it's not as thick and grainy as it once was. There's also more discernible complexity with a palate of baker's chocolate, toffee, figs/dates, port, and most interestingly, grape skins...those esters add a tartness that I never detected at any other strength of WWS. This version is also just slightly drier than its predecessors, and somewhat more quaffable.
