Dr. Verte Report post Posted October 16, 2007 Tonight.. at long last.. Kübler 53. I like it.. I like the louche.. the smells.. the taste (but it really tastes strange with my spaghetti!) Salute!! Absinthe is an aperitif. You're not supposed to drink it with your meal. A nice Chianti would be better for spaghetti.
elfnmagik Report post Posted October 16, 2007 Had an '05 Delirium Nocturnum last night. Would have paired nicely with basghetti. Totally tasted like a red rosé.
Absomphe Report post Posted October 16, 2007 Old Foghorn pairs pretty well with spaghetti also.
elfnmagik Report post Posted October 16, 2007 The Nocturnum was moving towards souring. Twas yummy.
Absomphe Report post Posted October 16, 2007 'Tis, indeed. My favorite of that line is the Noel, which also goes well with heartier Italian fare, and also tends towards a slight souring with age, along with an accompanying dryness.
Boggy Report post Posted October 16, 2007 Absinthe is an aperitif. You're not supposed to drink it with your meal. A nice Chianti would be better for spaghetti. Finally I fully agree with you Chianti is a good recommendation; spaghetti, just as any pasta or pizza requires just a decent bottle of red dry or beer. I have liked mine with Lech Premium or light and refreshing Villa Vivaldi.
Brian Robinson Report post Posted October 17, 2007 3 fingers of Auchentoshan 18 year old. Extraordinarily smooth. I like this one alot.
fée époussetée Report post Posted October 17, 2007 it was an aperitif.. but the flavor lingered to the meal.. the first bite was a shock! I cant see drinking absinthe while eating anything it would spoil the flavors. (dinner wine was a nice syrah)

Brian Robinson Report post Posted October 17, 2007 They've got a new 17 y.o. SherryWood that should be out shortly. Looking forward to it. Every year, they come out with a different 17 yo. Last year it was the NewWood. That was great as well.

Pan Buh Report post Posted October 17, 2007 If you guys are going to discuss your porn preferences I would suggest you keep your discussion of wood to those over the age of consent. Wouldn't want you getting into trouble.
Brian Robinson Report post Posted October 17, 2007 It is wondrous. The Balvenie line is definitely one of my favorite lines. Balvenie 30 is probably the best scotch I have ever tried. Better than even any of the samples of the Vintage Cask bottles they have made. All in all, the 21 y.o. is the best taste/bang for the buck. It's got many of the best attributes of the phenomenally more expensive 30 yo, with a much nicer price tag.
Absomphe Report post Posted October 17, 2007 Wouldn't You misspelled 'wood-dent' You said a mouthful, Shabba. In fact, I'd rate the Portwood up there with even some of the best Macallan vintages, and certainly, for the money, it's nearly impossible to beat.
elfnmagik Report post Posted October 17, 2007 'Somphe, what do you think of Black Boss Porter?
peridot Report post Posted October 17, 2007 I love the Balvenie 12 year Doublewood. In my limited experience it's one of my faves. I've had the 15 year Single Barrel a few times and I don't care for it at all. Smells like Tequila and tastes like smoky sake. Nice but not appropriate. The 21 year Portwood is awesome and it's thankfully available in this malt-hating state for a pretty reasonable price.
Absomphe Report post Posted October 18, 2007 'Somphe, what do you think of Black Boss Porter? I think it has a nice full body, and a clean chocolate/coffee flavor, but(as with most Baltic porters) it's too sweet for my palate, and the flavor betrays its bottom fermentation, which isn't much more faithful to a genuine porter than absinth is to absinthe. For a strong, dark lager it's okay, though.
