IMO, there is a clear presence of dirt, not stinky dirt, but clean earthy loamy dirt after a rain, in the Doubs, that I find intriguing if only in an olfactory curiosity sort of way.

I tasted a bit of my stash a few days ago, and noticed that same characteristic. What's really strange about it is how that dirt is layed over a kind of perfume, sort of like a reversal of the typical 18th century French person.

When I first tasted it, I thought it deserved an 85, because I found it odd but intriguing, and not unpleasant.
Now, I'd lower that by a point, or twenty.

Yes, I'm Krinkles the Clown on an absinthe a beer bender.

You got a problem with that?

I was excited to try it. I have heard so much but never had the opportunity. The GREEN color was one hell of a surprise! It is so very G-R-E-E-N! Silent also picked up on the dirt flavor but I was overwhelmed by the medicinal taste. I don't really care for it but I'm delighted to have a sample in my absinthe bar!

I had the joy of meeting our own MasterPC tonight. If a lovelier person exists, I haven't met him.

You only need to look in the mirror, Sir!
Seriously though, there are good people in this world then there are the rare ones that are exceptional. Martin Lake is a rarity!

He introduced me to the smoky martini. Best he explains what's in that.

This is not for the faint of heart. Really, it isn't:

Any mediocre vodka (sorry) almost to the top of the glass, Lagavulin (and only this scotch) slowly poured in over an upside down spoon (or, if you're really good like last night's bartender, just in the spoon right side up). Key here is slowly as the Lagavulin needs to sit and stay at the top. Superb!

Martin, I had a blast and am only rueful that my time in NYC is up. I'll be upset should our paths never cross again.

I would rate it as the worst absinthe I've sampled to date, but that isn't saying much since I've mostly had the best and only that. Some day soon I'll probably sample some of my friends' La Fee. I will give them a healthy dose of some of my better stuff so they understand what's what. ;)

Re: dirt and Doobs, had I not smelled Dirt by Demeter. Although it's not my preferred scent to wear, their Gin and Tonic is great.

I LOVE their G&T. As for La Fee, I'm sure you'll be able to sample all of their line at the TotC, like last year. I didn't take advantage of that op, by the way. ;)

Hmm, perhaps I will have to sample all of the La Fee offerings, just to say I did it. Now that I've tried some of the best absinthes out there, I am in a mood to try some of the dregs. All in the name of science.

Jeez, when I go out smelling like G&T's mostly people know I'm sloppy drunk again. I never even considered that I could smell that way without the drinking part. Seems kind of a shame, like part of the experience is missing.

The trick is to just to tell people you are wearing the cologne. Then whenever you smell like booze, you can just blame your scent and claim sobriety. ;)

Thanks, Baubel! I hadn't even noticed. So much for my eye for detail. I've been drinking water this evening but you just pointed out a reason for a toast. I haven't had any tequila in a while. I think I'll have a taste of Paradisio.

Tonight? Pinot Evil. Charming bottle... pretty o.k. wine for seven dollars, though it's not white, so I'm prejudiced.

BTW- We sell Dirt and Gin and Tonic where I work. It's beautiful! I don't have to buy a bottle, I can just spritz a sample between stocking boxes of Kashi.

Only a few days till I can buy Kübler at Binny's, let's hope for another price malfunction. I'll keep yall's posted!
