I have just tried this, and I must say it does keep my absinthe cold longer. I let it louche, then I added one cube of ice, from same source, and just enjoyed it over the time it took for the cube to melt completely. I do like to add more water to tame the alcohol bite, but not too much to take away from some of the different tastes. (btw, I am drinking the Jade VS currently)

So, does anyone else do this? If so, when do you add your ice cube? After it louches, or after you have achieved your mix ratio? As I live in the South, the temp. of the room is usually warmer, even with the A/C set to 72 degrees.

I'll add ice if the drink starts to warm up too much. In the summer usually ice is needed to maintain a good cold temperature(it gets miserably hot here in Virginia). Damn global warming

I see. Thanks for your opinion. The ice did melt faster than I expected. I am using very cold water. Actually, this might be a good time to add that my version of a fountain is a 2.5 gallon spring water jug with a spout on the bottom. I can control the drip from very slow to a full out jet stream (for cleaning the glass after). I set it on a box and it is the perfect height to pour. Well, I guess that would be the slum way of doing it anyway.

Nothing slumey(made up word) about it. If you can control the drip in order to enjoy watching the louche, you are good to go

Yeah, I guess it would just be a tad in the other direction from the belle epoch era of drip fountains.

I find that if I enjoy the flavor of a particular absinthe enough, it doesn't matter to me how much it warms up, so I don't bother with ice.

Then again, I tend to eat my ale at room temperature, so even putting a slight chill on my absinthe is plenty cool enough for me.

Besides, I usually louche anabsinthe to pretty much just the strength I desire, so the idea of adding ice that will begin to dilute it further, just doesn't appeal to me.

I will usually add a couple of cubes to my drink.

I will make the drink strong so it doesn't get too diluted as the ice melts.

The colder the drink, the number your tongue, hence the King will always taste better cold, eh?

If someone sent you a bottle of King of Spirits, free of charge. Would you drink it and not tell anyone?

That's my technique as well, Baron, only with one cube instead of two.

If I went to my door one morning and discovered that somebody had sent me a bottle of King o' Spurts, I'd back slowly away from the package, throw a few things into a suitcase and drive away from my home without looking back.

I got a King mini, as well as a Hill's, Zelena Mutha, and some brand distilled(HA!) by Sebor. I had to know what it tasted like. It's every bit as bad as you think, and worse. Hill's, BTW, has the most unique taste of every brand I've ever tried. And that's not a good thing.

I louche, then I cube, just like G&C and Brooks, but I use three or four cubes.

Great wormwood aroma out of the glass, no numbness on the tongue, Nice :)
