Stepping in from Outside

I first came across absinthe in the wonderful art and literature of the 19th century – surely not uncommon – and it didn't take long for the mystique of this then-ubiquitous beverage to obsess me. After wallowing for a time in the realms of fire and thujone, I was set straight by this site and others, happily, so that when I at last had the opportunity to try absinthe I found myself enjoying a glass of Duplais Verte, palate undefiled. At that point, relieved that it also tasted good, my interest in absinthe only grew, and I decided not much later that I should cease lurking and become an active member of this community, and here we are.
