Jade Absinthe in US bars?

Recommended Posts

I read on another forum someone was claiming to work at an "unnamed" absinthe bar (he won't say the name), and listed off a laundry list of absinthe they carry which included the Jade line. I've read about the delays to purchase 1901 at DrinkupNY and I wasn't aware of any bar in the country carrying it. Does anyone know if this is legit?

Jade NO is the only one currently available for sale in the US,and not in all states.I can't get it in Ct,I would have to go to NY for it.

Nope. I've seen 1901 from a bar that wouldn't skirt the law.

Come to Colorado, we have snow, floods, fires, and 1901. You'll have a blast! (Not at the fracking rigs, hopefully.)

I don't know about retail, but it is definitely available wholesale.

And then you can find bars that skirt the state's ABC laws.

The product itself is 'legit' in that what is on the label, is what is in the bottle. They got it outside the 'approved' system, (and take a risk).

Then you have places that sell counterfeits.

So if you see a product on a bar menu that you think shouldn't be there, you can always ask about it.

Colorado has all types of entertainment these days! I do love it out there, it's been too long since I've made it over.

Yes I have seen 1901 elsewhere, although not in Colorado. Those bars I question their buying since one of them also had L'Ancienne 2013 and another had Czech swill that's probably only sold online.

I know the owner and head bartender of this bar in Colorado fairly well, and they are a brand new bar subject to inspections. They wouldn't place themselves at risk for just a bottle. That being said, a glass of the stuff is about 1/4 the price of a bottle. No thanks, I'll drink it at home.

We have had Jade NO in the state for a long time. It's usually not as pricey ($12 - $15) but at one spot in Boulder it was $25 a glass!

I wouldn't be surprised if all Jades are available but having a hard time finding their way into bars since they are pricey and absinthe is still a niche market. Hell, convincing some bars to stock any absinthe is hard enough at times, pitching a Jade would be a long shot.

1901 has been on (at least one of) the legally approved distribution ordering lists for Colorado for well over a year.

I could have sworn that the Sazerac bar in the Roosevelt in New Orleans had more than one of the Jade lines...

L'Ancienne 2013?? Either a typo or someone is counterfeiting my absinthe.

Or someone bought it on line & decided to sell it at their bar.

I still have yet to visit the Absinthe House (Boulder) even though I'm only about 30 minutes away... something is definitely wrong with me.

It's honestly overpriced as hell and their food is really expensive for really small portions...the staff has no idea what's going on. They're the one selling Jade for $25 a glass. We've tried a few absinthes there before buying, but it's basically just another Boulder bro bar/club/bodypaint fairy joint.

Canon must be mislabeling their menu then...maybe the meant 2011 and 2012: http://www.canonseattle.com/CaptainsList/captain.pdf

Exactly, four glasses and you have an entire bottle paid for at retail. More than the usual markup I'm sure.

Alan, it was indeed the Absinthe House in Boulder where I tried Jade NO ($25, no joke), VC, and La Clandestine in my early days before reviewing. But the new bar that I'm talking about is Social. After visiting the Absinthe House in Boulder I wasn't impressed. It caters to the "bro tourist" absinthe aesthetic, not the absintheur aesthetic. We haven't been there in years so I don't know what they currently stock.

Social is doing a great job with booze all around. Like most places you can still spot a bottle of crap like La Fee and Ordinaire there. I have a "feeling" that once those bottles are empty they will replace them with better stock. Also of note, they have Emperor Norton Absinthe for any Colorado people who want to try that Bay Area absinthe.

I was referring to the Canon list when referencing L'Ancienne 2013, my bad, or rather, their bad.
