I am wondering which absinthes I could have my local store try to get in stock. They'll try to get what I suggest, I'm a good customer.

I think they currently have lucid, mansinthe, st. George, Kübler, the absentes, and a pernod which I think is some other liquor...

Seeing that the Jade line is coming to New York, and clandestine and other decent absinthes are available elsewhere, it looks like the right time to try to get some good absinthe at the store.

Can I get a list of what I might be able to get around here?

It's Powder Springs, Georgia

Only your store will be able to honestly answer that. For an example. Ridge verte can be found in a hole in the wall mexican resturant which has a liqour bar and sells bottles. However, when I inquires about the local total wine and more stocking it! no was the answer.

Just ask them. Try asking for a brand you like or ask for leopolds verte.

If the store near you in Georgia has Mansinthe, it should be able to get Pacifique.

If you don't like anise at all, you're not likely to care for any decent absinthe, as absinthe is an anise flavored drink. It's kind of like asking if there are any good beers that don't taste like hops or malt.----Hiram

Not necessarily. I tried believe me I tried. The total wine and more near me carries mansinthe , st. George, Kübler, grand absente, pernod and some other oddballs. Wether it is because what stock they do have never seems to be depleted or what the manager says about them not being able to get either ridge (vilya) or pacifique is true, who knows. They just will not get it. Even calling their distributer does not seem to work.

That brings to question how in the world this hole in the wall taco bar can get ridge. Assuming all the local vendors selling alcohol are using the same distributers, how can this be?

Better luck to you ripper though in your endeavor.

It's simple. The buyers for the places that don't have it choose not to stock it. Total Wine here in CT has about 8 "absinthes" in stock and they are all just about the poorest choices you could make from the approximately 17 available here. I know both those you mention are available in FL, so a good independent retailer should be able to get them for you.

The places around here that used to carry Lucid and Absente now only carry the Absente. And trying to talk to them about it?...Might as well be talking to a stump.

I gave up trying. At least for now. It's tiresome.

But that's only me, one man asking about absinthe.
But you know, if just, one person, just one person does it,
they may think he's really sick and they won't help him.
And if two people, two people do it, in harmony,
they may think they're both drunk and they won't help either of them.
And three people do it, three, can you imagine, three people walking in asking for a bottle of Pacifique and walking out? They may think it's an organization.
And can you, can you imagine fifty people a day? I said fifty people a day walking in asking for a bottle of Pacifique and walking out?
And friends they may thinks it's a movement.

And that's what it is.

I think they had leopold one time, but it might have been a different store...

They've been good about getting some decent absinthe as it becomes available. I think I've asked about clandestine once and they couldn't get it. I'm going to make up a list to work from.

So...

Pacifique
Ridge
Leopold
Butterfly?
Jade?

I buy Leopolds locally. Everything else I order online.

The list you have there is a great one. I enjoy all of those absinthes quite a lot :)

Might add Marteau and Delaware Phoenix WW/MoL to your list.

Vilya Spirits' (the distillery formerly known as Ridge) Blanche and Verte are offered in GA by Prestige Wine Wholesale, Ltd.  If your favorite liquor store works with Prestige then they should be able to source our absinthe.  Prestige contact info.  Thanks for your interest!

Walton Waters and Meadow of love. Both distilled by Cheryl Lins in New York.

I may have misspelled her name but Delaware Phoenix is the distillery and Catskill Cellars will always have it.

Google is your friend and I'm merely a clerk.

I understand they are good absinthes.

Good day to you, Cheers!

Well, I finally found a better job. When I get paid I'm going to pick up a few absinthes and give them a list of what they may be able to get in stock. I think I'll buy a Kübler (been a while), lucid, and mansinthe.
I am hesitant to buy the mansinthe at the same time as other bottles because I've noticed that if you don't drink the bottle quickly after opening it gets flakes in it, so I might do st. george.

So... Would you please help me clean up my list, with the best and most likely available at the top? I'm not experienced with most of these brands.

Here's my top 5 picks from Catskill Cellars: Marteau Master's Reserve,Ridge Verte (now called "Villya" Verte),Pacifique,Meadow of Love,& La Clandestine. All five would be very nice additions to your collection.I never noticed flakes in Mansinthe, but I would forgo Kübler,Lucid & St George for any of the five I mentioned.Have fun!

Ditto Redwun, The five he mentioned are a big jump in flavor and balance.

Ive had about 3 or 4 bottles of Mansinthe and never notices any flakes. I would choose that over Kübler. flakes or not.

well, if your store can get Mansinthe, as zman said, you should be able to get Pacifique,( and probably the others from Tempus Fugit as well).

and see Juliie's link above for Vilya.

"Luckily" we have a bunch of hipster mini-liquor stores opening up in a few different cities nearby. Follow the mustaches and plaid, and maybe you can get lucky (we've had so much more luck doing this than going to bigger stores). A lot of them are excited to hear about products that are high-quality/lovingly made/niche.
