Another awful burning scene, people   :poop: .  It appears in episode 3 of season 1 (Goblin Merchant Men), around minute 21:45.  You have a screen shot in my blog.

I already screamed my lungs out in frustration when I commented on the travesty.  I took the liberty to include some paragraphs of the FAQ of this site (giving credit and linking back, of course).

It is a pity, the sugar holder is a wonderful replica, maybe even a real antiquity.  They just missed the carafe  .

Coppola's absinthe scene is one that I loved very much to recreate when I was 16 (before I even knew what absinthe was).  I used to take a sugar cube and a glass of orange juice and pretend that I was Mina

Boooooo!!! If this is how he serves absinthe - he truly is the Prince of Darkness (Ignorance).

The fire ritual is like the undead. It just won't stay in its coffin.

Well, it wasn't actually Dracula doing the ritual - he wasn't even there.  It was some unnamed Bohemian that just happened to be around.  Not that that is an excuse anyway...

So the hobo-looking dude isn't Dracula? Would be cool if the Dark Lord storms in... flips over the table of burning absinthe... and schools the hobo on why he should never flame the faerie. Then kills him, of course.

Could have been a good "teaching moment".

Joseph, I love you forever!

No, Dracula in fact is Jonathan Rhys-Meyers - not my type of Dracula but eh. The Dark Lord stormed in, all right, just to save Mina from another absinthe drinker that wanted to have his way with her.  Your scene would have been a lot better  :headbang:

They were taking shots of absinthe in last week's American Horror Story.

You got a problem with that?

In all honesty, if they did it right, many people would probably not notice. The thing that got my attention was the scene of Johnny Depp lighting up his absinthe/laudanum soaked sugar cube in the movie FROM HELL.

Guess what, I have never lit my absinthe or imbibed in any faux shill. What that scene did for me was get me interested to do research. This is back in 2004. The initial allure of something out of the ordinary, even when done wrong, can be the bridge which starts one on a journey into something that will last a lifetime. You just have to have some common sense and some willingness to learn.

Well one step at a time we can at least get people to appreciate absinthe without the need to turn it into a Rammstein concert performance. :no-czechs3: It would be interesting to contact the network too if possible.

Granted, that if we polled the forums, many or most of us saw it done wrong first.

But what is the sum game for the public who will see one of those episodes and write off absinthe as something to 'dangerous' or 'trendy' to ever try, vs new interest?

Funny enough, I think the opposite would have been true with American Horror Story. It would have for with the theme of the show much much better if they did it the right way.

For the AHS scene, I kinda felt it was a little more "teenagers do stupid shit". But damnit, Dracula...

Agree with Ambear about AHS.  I wrote it off as typical teen ignorance.  First time I drank "absinthe" was a shot of Hills :)   You only know what you know until you know more.
