I always had a interest in absinthe however due to living in
Canada I was under the impression it was still banned. That changed three weeks ago when I
visited our government liquor store and saw Hill Absinthe. That caught my eye because I thought
absinthe was banned. I decided to
do some research and found WS.
This site was extremely helpful in finding out that it was not banned. More importantly explaining the myths
behind absinthe and after reading abstracts from some of the scientific
community I decided it was a product I wanted to try.
After doing that research I decided I wanted to try Absinthe
but did not want to try the Hill brand after reading all the reviews on WS and
other sites. However it is the
only brand the government liquor stores sell here.
That led me to Taboo absinthe. I contacted them and found out I could have them ship me a
bottle. The problem was I did not
want to buy three bottles before trying the product to see if I even liked
absinthe nor did I want to pay $28 in shipping.
However the SK government recently allowed a select few
private liquor stores in my province.
This is very new and there is only 1 in the city I live in. However it is close to where I live so
I checked it out. I was surprised
to see that they carried Taboo and La Fee Absinthe Parisienne. After reading the reviews I decided
that Taboo was the way to go. The
scores gave it about a B + on most sites which I figured was a great place to
start and was the best out of the two options I can select from locally.
I bought a bottle of Taboo and made my first drink with just
ice cold water and a bit of fresh lime juice. I loved it.
So now I am off to do some more research and find out what other brands
I can bring into my home province, as I will be traveling to the U.S. over the
