Welcome! Start by telling us a little more of yourself. How did you stumble upon absinthe? Have any favorites, yet?

thank you all so much for the warm welcome! ... I'm new to forums in general, so please excuse any mistakes I make!

I live in the Tampa Bay area of Florida; been here all my life. my first notice of absinthe was back in 1997, in the music video for 'The Perfect Drug' by Nine Inch Nails. I didn't know what it was, but I remember thinking it was some kind of poison. over the years, I would see absinthe appear in various pop culture references, most memorably in the movie 'From Hell'. for a long while, that was pretty much it.

a few years ago; a friend gave me a bottle of Absente (with spoon) as a gift. he told me it was illegal. I took it to a party and had maybe two ounces, while the rest vanished among my friends and others. I kept the bottle because I thought it was cool. I quickly forgot about it.

then: earlier this year, I stumbled onto the 'Absinthe' documentary. I watched it twice, and immediately I was very interested in the history (and the future) of absinthe. I scoured Youtube for anything I could find (I found a lot of crazy people doing crazy things!), and then began to search for absinthe in local stores. recently I found a bottle of Lucid, packaged with a glass and a balancier. I have been enjoying it now for a couple months, a glass or two at a time. I am also looking for other brands to try next. I'm very interested in a few American brands; I've been reading good things about them.

so, I'm just starting out. I look forward to expanding my absinthe knowledge and experience, and to building my bottle collection. I'll keep them all, even the bad ones. ;-)

but enough about me... cheers!

Ridge is on my "must taste" list - form what I hear, it's wonderful. what is the best way to order it? this might be a dumb question, but would a store in my area be able to special-order some?

Welcome Preston!

thank you so much!

Hello and welcome!

I think Florida is a black hole as far as online ordering goes (though don't quote me on that, we have a Florida resident or two who would definitely know better). I do know Ridge is available from some of these vendors if they're not already available in the state.

thanks! I will look them over. I'm sure I'll begin buying online out of necessity, but it would be wonderful if I could encourage a local store to expand its absinthe offerings.

LDF shipments seem to come to FL ok. Absinthes.com will not though.

Ridge verte is available as said. Aside from that, not much else noteworthy.

Soz off topic... where's me glass?

Stacole Fine wines is our distributor in Florida. Your favorite package store should be able to get it for you. Julie (my partner in crime and life) was in Tallahassee schmoozing with sales reps only last December. Thank you and best of luck!

thank you so much, Joe! I will be demanding (requesting) my local vendors to stock Ridge.

I inquired about special orders at a shop near my house, and the manager showed me a list of all the available brands and types he could currently order: Absente, Lucid, St. George, and Vieux Pontarlier 120.

From one new guy to another...

Folks most likely grow weary of reading posts from "another new guy." However, we all gotta be new at one time...

Fun place to be new...

I did not want to say something, (maybe it was different up in Northern Florida) but I knew that from my research, Ridge is not able to be ordered where I am. i believe the only place to get it is at the link I provided or online.

Might be worth a trip down for you.

I am about 90 minutes west of Orlando, so a trip out there isn't out of the question! I will definitely save that link, and if I find myself in Orlando, I will give them a visit.
