UNBANNED: Absinthe


Absinthe was let back into the U.S. in 2007, after 95 years in exile,

when the French Lucid brand of absinthe got approved for import. It only

got the nod from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms when it

lowered its level of thujone--the chemical that (possibly erroneously)

is thought to give absinthe its mild psychedelic effects--to one-third

of what's allowed in the EU.

I enjoyed the article about all the banned products. I do wish they would lift the ban on haggis. The canned stuff we get here in the states is not too bad but no where near the real stuff. Seems like it's time for another Scotland vacation.
