dBunneh Report post Posted July 6, 2012 Aloha! I stumbled on this while reading Huffington Post. It is a brief story about Absinthe; but it also has a little video too. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/liquorcom/co..._b_1647749.html Enjoy! Mahalo.
Père Ubu Report post Posted July 6, 2012 Nice, too bad they didn't use absinthe. Absinthe can be very tasty, unlike that thing Pernod makes nowadays.
Absomphe Report post Posted July 6, 2012 Typical Huff Post.
Joe Legate Report post Posted July 6, 2012 Typical clown. The article (to be so short) is spot on. The video came from Simon Ford and Liquor.com Who is Simon Ford? International ambassador for Plymouth Gin and brand director for trade outreach and brand education at Pernod Ricard USA Ya think he's going to hunt down a bottle of Marteau? Don't shoot the messenger especially when the messenger did a fairly "OK" job.
dBunneh Report post Posted July 6, 2012 And here I assumed they used the Pernod junk so that they wouldn't be wasting quality absinthe.
Larspeart Report post Posted July 6, 2012 Simon is a good guy. I have met him several times, and he's a straight shooter, and pretty educated on most things booze. However, as Joe pointed out, he's a (well-paid) shill for PR-USA. It's sorta the definition of his job to pitch Pernod.
Larspeart Report post Posted July 6, 2012 My only (very minor) quibble would be his 5:1 ratio. But it's a minor quibble.
Jay Report post Posted July 6, 2012 (edited) Nice, too bad they didn't use absinthe. Absinthe can be very tasty, unlike that thing Pernod makes nowadays. In fairness, modern Pernod is absinthe; it simply isn't very good absinthe. As far as the video goes, it does the job of illustrating the ritual well enough, although the only real reason for having him measure a dose of absinthe in a metal jigger, given that the dose is already measured by virtue of the reservoir glass, is to use that camera angle in order to be flashy. Instead, it just makes him look like an amateur, which isn't a good impression to give when you're trying to sell something. Phoenix Report post Posted July 6, 2012 (edited) They mentioned you won't hallucinate, that absinthe is available in the US, and there was no fire. I'd call that article a success. I was also under the impression that Pernod now makes an absinthe (albeit crappy) along with their pastis. What was in the video was their absinthe. Père Ubu Report post Posted July 6, 2012 (edited) Too bad they peddle porkchop: Edited July 7, 2012 by Père Ubu
Absomphe Report post Posted July 7, 2012 (edited) Ya think he's going to hunt down a bottle of Marteau? Why not? Plenty of people on this forum have done that simply out of love for fine absinthe. Edited July 7, 2012 by Absomphe
Joe Legate Report post Posted July 7, 2012 Silly clown. Now, you're quibbling. In a similar circumstance: I would grab a bottle of Ridge. G~ would grab a bottle of Marteau. Simon has to grab the Pernod. It's reasonable and understandable. You are just being pissy because I deflated your Huff prick.
Père Ubu Report post Posted July 7, 2012 Does your website brag about porkchop? His does.
Joe Legate Report post Posted July 7, 2012 Not the point. I'm not going to defend Simon Ford or Pernod. I will (however) tease the clown every chance i get and expect nothing less from him.
Père Ubu Report post Posted July 7, 2012 Oh, clown teasing is a sport in three major continents, and two minor ones. Should be an Olympic sport.
Père Ubu Report post Posted July 7, 2012 (edited) I was disappointed in seeing Pernod join the porkchop club. Blinded by greed is my only guess. Edited July 7, 2012 by Père Ubu
OMG_Bill Report post Posted July 7, 2012 Greed, such a terrible thing. I am trying to get better. The classes and group therapy are helping.
Absomphe Report post Posted July 7, 2012 (edited) I deflated your Huff prick. That's fine with me. Arianna's not quite my type, anyway. Edited July 7, 2012 by Absomphe
optional Report post Posted July 7, 2012 Someone needs to come out with a $20-30 bottle of 'okay' absinthe to help popularize it. If only absinthe were cheap to produce...

TheLoucheyMonster! Report post Posted July 8, 2012 La Charlotte is at least a distilled absinthe. Comparable to Kübler. Absinthe Ordinaire is a disgusting crapsinthe mix
Ron Report post Posted July 8, 2012 I'm getting $30 absinthe deja vu.
bksmithey Report post Posted July 8, 2012 Deja vu indeed. Isn't this the part where we start talking about 375 ml bottles?
OMG_Bill Report post Posted July 8, 2012 Yep, right about here. Next it will tumble on down to "Why doesn't anyone do mini bottles of absinthe?" That's where the producers get to share their opinions again. It may be just my opinion and nobody asked for it, but wouldn't filling, capping and labeling mini bottles be a terrible way to spend the day? Now the short discussion can begin............or not.
