Adam Liquor Outlet

Recommended Posts

My name is Adam. I work for a liquor store in Oregon. I do the spirit product ordering for the store and I'm slowly but surely trying to learn as much as I can about all the different tasty beverages that are out there and on our shelves. My Internet searches for knowledge on all things wormwood have brought me here!

I enjoy a good absinthe drink and or cocktail myself on occasion and I think it is a fascinating spirit. I love the history and mystique of it. I also enjoy hearing the mis-information about it when talking to customers in the store and hopefully I can expand my knowledge of the spirit to better serve my customers and enjoy it myself!

Looking forward to chatting with all of you!

Welcome to the Forum, Adam.

We need more informed people in the liquor stores. Here it seems that many of the people working in the stores just do it for the pay check and couldn't care less about what they're selling. Good on you!

I hear you on that Joe, I can't tell you how many times a week, or day even I hear how happy they are to be talking to someone with some knowledge for the product. To me, I just can't imagine selling something I know nothing about. Call it 10yrs in retail selling electronics or maybe I'm just the curious type that wants to soak in as much info as possible.. but I love learning and passing on info, it makes for such a better experience all around!

Welcome! And thank you for actually caring about your job. I can't count how many times I've facepalmed when talking absinthe to store owners, let alone clerks.

The download is excellent. I hand them out like candy when I"m talking to people about absinthe.

Hi! If only we had more like you here too; I just got those blank stupid looks whenever I inquired about it at our local stores.
That's no lie. We have a lot of work to do in Montana.

Howdy Podner.

It's very refreshing to hear about someone from behind the counter wanting to learn about absinthe and engaging a community at the same time. I've also grown a bit tired of liquor store employees either not knowing, or not caring to know anything about absinthe.

Welcome Adam! I will drive out of my way sometimes to go to a store where the folk know the products and the customers.

You have many distillers here who not only make absinth, but also gins, vodkas, whiskeys and other fine spirits, who are glad to help others learn. And also a few mixologists, distributors, spirits historians, and just plan dedicated drinkers. You have come to the right place indeed! :wave2:

Adam Welcome :wave2:

And when you have some time, submit the info for the store you work at to theabsinthefinder.com, to help others looking for absinthe in your area, the link is in my signature.

That is a beautiful flyer. It is definitely going up near my absinthe and going to be made available for any customer that wants it.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. This looks like a great community!

Welcome Adam.

I'd like to get copies of this in every liquor store in the country, so feel free to download, print, and give to your absinthe-buying customers.

Nice to have you! All the stores around here have their heads up their butts, and never want to step outside of their little comfort zone. Enjoy learning about good absinthe, then hopefully, you can enjoy spreading it to others!

All the stores around here have their heads up their butts, ...
I can't say that. There are a few that are knowledgeable and care about the service they provide. They have supported us from day one, being inquisitive and encouraging. Even though they may not be absinthe (or gin) drinkers, they still recognize the value to their customers of being well informed.

That said, there are more that care about nothing more than making a sale. One store I frequent. The other, I avoid.

"Around here" means my town, not NY in general. I'm aware of DUNY, Catskill Cellars and Astor...they are all too far from me for a casual drive to buy however. I've talked to the local shops, and they don't even want to talk about absinthe, as they are happy with the Grande Absente or Dr. O they have on their shelves.

"Around here" means my town,
Exactly. My town has 3 liquor stores. The Valley has less than ten. 2, maybe 3 actually gives a rat's ass about what they sell. Disappointing, ain't it?
