I'm happier than ever that, over a decade ago, I dumped National Geographic for becoming too much like National Enquirer.

I want to find that bar! :yahoo:

Although, considering it's probable absinthe selection, maybe not.

2004
NGTV was also sued by the Cantada absinthe bar in Paris for falsely translating and sensationalizing the French reactions and comments.
I'm surprised it's up on NG's site.
That was a week of my life I'll never get back...and all I got was a T-shirt (seriously).
They had great footage, excellent interviews in both Switzerland and France and filmed a full absinthe distillation in Pontarlier. They didn't want me around for the filming at Cantada (for good reason).
The crew was told by the producer not to come back with something that might be printed in Cigar Aficionado...the editors did the rest...pitiful.
Absinthe is always greener in the other glass.™

Right... a few ounces, then the guy drinks FIVE of them! No wonder he's hallucinating. Pity the suckers who follow those directions.

A out two decades ago I noticed a relative sudden shift in NG mags. They went from very educational and factual, to devoid of real info and brimming with sensationalism. After a lifetime of reading the mag, I canceled it with a heavy heart. But I haven't seen a single reason to question my actions.
Now we got the intraweb, but back then they were a huge source of info.

What a bunch of friggin' a-holes. This is why you can never trust TV producers, and any time they want to do a piece on you, you need to have it in the contract that you have to be there, and approve of the general script/outline. I just refused Verizon, as they wanted to film a mini-doc on my guitar shop for their channel, telling me they could not tell me any details of their plans, there was no outline, and they wanted to direct me in doing certain things to guitars, but wouldn't tell me what they wanted in advance. I told them to take a hike. Sorry it ended this way PV...this kind of crap really pisses me off.

At least with Bourdain, he was respectful, you looked cool, and the piece had some class.

Why do they still have the vid up? By now even most noobs can tell it's full of crap. Sue them again for doing that.

Hulu.com has an Absinthe documentary up right now. It's about an hour long and covers the history of Absinthe.

I'm sure it is well known on this board. and I apologize if it has already been talked about.

Most of it will be old news to most of you, but as a relative newcomer to the drink, I thought it was interesting.

Yeah this documentary was great to watch. The Bourdain episode was also well done, although it made me very jealous at the time (pre-ban).

Not sure if this is what you mean but I googled Bourdain and absinthe and got an 8 minute video, which was quite good.

(sorry I tried to post the link but couldn't figure out how)
