Fountain Making

I applaud the creativity here, however I like many different types of liquor along with absinthe, part of the fun in drinking absinthe is also in the presentation. Somehow having a glass of absinthe served using a plastic container loses part of the ambiance for me.

I hope I didn't offend anyone or sound too prudish!

The important part is that the any and all containers that have absinthe are made of glass, as neat absinthe will leach chemicals and flavors from plastics and some natural materials as well. But as far as the water goes, many people here louche up with sports bottles, and other such containers. Many of us have found that glass accessories can have tragic end, so for daily use, plastic accessories are fine and dandy.

I use a plastic dripper, and it has enchanced my experience by doing a better and more convinient job of louching my absinthe. And if dropped wil not fill my kitchen floor with shards of glass. with little ones, this is no small thing for me. But I do admit, it ain't pretty. I think the Lucid see-saw dripper would be a good compromise for me. My carafe is an old bottle of VC, beacuse they are pretty, and come with a good stopper.

Totally agree, would never put high ABV in plastic and understand the day to day use. I have a well stocked bar and so absinthe is a special drink for me and not my day to day go to!

Occationaly, I like a formal ritual, but in my case Absinthe is my daily drink. I have other booze like Glen Mornagie, Centenario rum, Biondi Pisco, Cachacsa (sp?), etc. but I drink them rarely, even before I discovered absinthe. I hit the rum hard around Christmas, and then it sits until the next one.

Thanks, I thought it was one of the S sounding 'c's. ç

I bought it at the RJ DutyFree, after getting a Verde-Amarella shirt.

I was pretty proud of my off the cuff, make do in a pinch, just had thought it up louche creating device. I always use ice cold "Poland Spring" water but have been using a small cream pitcher, and to hold it and try to drip louche is quite a feat of patience. I took the spout off the water jug and now have it atop an orange juice bottle which i just open the spout a smidgen and give a light squeeze. But it is still time consuming (like this post). As a new Absinthe enthusiast (and with not very deep pockets) i make do. And i also have a tendency to like to piss off snobby people. Lets keep it real folks. Absinthe was mostly drunk by artists and poets right? And neither made very much money from their work while they were alive. If anything Absinthe is the "working man"s (or womans) drink. Not the upperclass or better than thou's because i have more than you ever will. Aside from that i thoroughly enjoy being a part of this group of fine folks and hope to make some good online aquaintances and learn more about my newest favorite hobby! And thats my two cents worth.

A lot of experienced people use sports bottles, so no sweat there. Some here are loaded, or just get into the accessories, but most aren't. I don't begrudge those who have the will or the dough to buy the nice stuff, but that doesn't mean I have to buy what they consider proper.

Some of us compromise and get/make things between the gorgeous top end stuff, but have more utility than a pitcher. Like the $29 dripper I want, sure not as pretty as the sterling silver one, but I could afford it. My current dripper is an old measuring cup with a tiny hole poked at the bottom with a pocket knife. An onion saver will work as well. My fountain was a $38 (shipped) vodka infusion jar, that worked very well until I dropped it, hence the measuring cup dripper.

I just pour a thin stream from my tupperware tumbler......or a medium stream or what ever happens to fill the glass. *smiley wink*

If I power louche, I let the glass set for a minute to collect itself.

I apologize I guess my meaning did not come out the way I wanted it too and I feel some folks took offense for this I am sorry. What I was trying to say is I do not drink absinthe that often but when I share it I want it to be a special event for me and my friends, I did not mean to offend anyone on the forum but I feel a few of you may have taken offense to my earlier comment. For this I am truly sorry.

I wasn't offended in the least. I really do use a tupperware tumbler. The fancy things are way nice but we all do what we can.

When I have friends over I break out a handmade fountain and the good booze. It's all good Bushman.

To your health, Cheers!

The best louche I had was from a natural water stream in an hill in Switzerland.....

So, personal experiences should always be as fantastic as possible !

Cheers,
