Greetings! I'm an Absinthe aficionado currently living in Sasebo, Japan. Of particular interest to me is if the Japanese brew Absinthe as it a bit prohibitive to have it sent over the pond.

Cheers!

Thank you! I've been using the Wormwood Society site for a couple of years now. Finally decided it's time to make it official :-) I have to say, all the reviews have saved me from buying some nasty stuff. Speaking of, I do believe there is a glass of Delaware Phoenix 'Meadow of Love' calling my name...

Suntory used to make Hermes Absinthe a few years back.

There are a few imported absinthes available in Japan, but mainly in Tokyo or online. Do you know Bar Tram in Tokyo? They probably have the best range in Japan, and many of us who have been to Boveresse or the Absinthiades in the last few years have met Rogerio and Ito from there.

I wish that I could get to Tokyo easily - we're on Kyushu island which is the far south. Tokyo is about a 1000 miles north of here - which was somewhat comforting during the big earthquake and tsunami. So it's not so easy to pop in :-) We are planning a trip for spring break next year, so I'll have to find my way to Bar Tram, thank you for the link.

In the meantime, I'll have to print up some more "herbal cooking oil" labels and have some friends relabel the bottles and ship over a few (we have access to USPS via the FPO system) I'll have to have it shipped parcel post so it goes via surface ship - the last time, it was sent via Priority and tragically, the Vieux Carre's cork pushed out due to the pressure during flight. It made for a great smelling box...though I near cried at the loss.

I mis-read that as "ALL the absinthe crooks and trannies*"

Yes, I know them too.

Crooks and trannies and grannies, oh my!

I popped into a Suntory liquor store last summer and inquired about absinthe, the man gave me a smile and said 'No Absinthe' I got the feeling it wasn't the first time he'd been asked about it.

Thank you all for the welcome!
