Cascaron=cleaned out eggshell filled with confeti, closed of with cellophane, and painted in bright cheerful colors.
There was no absinthe drinking :( , but I did remember where I had tasted anise before. In western Guatemala they make a sweet bread called Xeca that is delicious, and the main flavoring ingredient (besides brown sugar) is anise, and lots of it. I love this bread, but it is hard to find. thankfully my brother found a bakery in the DFW area that sold them. I just had my last one with some coffee. Num num.
