I stumbled upon this brand as I was making a new purchase in my go to absinthe store. I dont expect it to be anything amazing. But for the price, it could definatley be an alternative to some of the other decent marks such as mansinthe when I don't feel like shelling out 100+ for a bottle. Has anyone tried it? They offer a rasberry flavored spirit aswell (yuk!) which makes me question their brand as a whole. Anyways, let me know what you think :wave2: .....Lord knows we need more decent, affordable absinthe available in the US.

(As a side note, I have to say...i do like the music on their site :b-day: )

I'll give it a try. What's your go to absinthe store?

Greetings connasseurlifestyle. Why don't you venture over to Newcomer Introductions and let us give you a proper welcome. I checked out the link but didn't see who actually makes ABYSS. Time for a proper search I'm thinking.

Interesting. Most of the information looks pretty good although I'm not a big fan of star anise in absinthe. While they later down play it, the website says,

"Reputed for its beneficial therapeutic properties since Antiquity, wormwood must be handled with caution as it is a neurotoxin if abused due to its complex composition. The most active part is the thujone, held responsible for toxic phenomena, an oil described with a similar structure as THC, an active component in cannabis. The thujone is the main element incriminated in the toxicity of absinthe."

Why mention the bullshit if you're not trying to capture the attention of the drug mystique?

My "Go to" absinthe store is actually just a local spirits store here in California. Its called Beverage warehouse. Heres the Link: http://www.beveragewarehouse.com
Its kind of like BevMo. Although, I don't believe they do shipment orders. Nothing special, but they do happen to have a decent selection of mid-range absinthe for a walk in liquor store(none of the fancy stuff like jades or anything of that caliber), but if your in socal and want to pick up a quick bottle for the evening its a nice store to go to.

:wave2: I'm from Los Angeles.

Where ya from, feller? :wave2:

Sure thing  and I do believe its time for a proper investigation on this new mark as well. Thank you for the welcome

indeed. That is why I felt so compelled to make a post about it. Most absinthes make a clear standing of french authenticity or complete czech mind trippin bullshit. But this one threw me off a bit. I wasn't sure what to think of it.

Here's the on-line stock list from Beverage Warehouse.
Not sure where you get $100 a bottle for Mansinthe, in fact, Abyss is the same price, also is Vieux Pontarlier.

Abyss is made by Lemercier, in Fougerolles, which is not in the Franche-Comté, as is implied on their web-site.

NEVER got and NEVER will buy a $100 bottle of mansinthe. That is ridiculous and does not exist. You must have misunderstood me. I was saying that I was looking for an alternative to mansinthe when I dont feel like picking up a 100+ bottle. Meaning, when I dont feel like paying much, and don't feel like a $57 of mansinthe, I want to have another brand to fall back on for around the same price of mansinthe.

That gives me pause.

Nope, but if it's anywhere near as tasty as The Abyss Imperial Stout, it's a winner.

Somehow, I doubt that, though.

Greetings,

This is my first post in this forum, and I wanted chime in. I was at the Beverage Warehouse (which, I agree is one of the best places to buy absinthe on the west side of Los Angeles), when I came across the Abyss absinthe. I've seen it around a lot, and was curious to try it; but I really didn't want to buy a whole bottle of something I'd never tried. So I picked up a bottle of Vieux Pontarlier and went to the checkout when I noticed in the mini bottle section they sold little bottles of Abyss for $10. If you're curious, this is a good way to try it. It's by far the the best absinthe packaged in a mini bottle I've had - which, considering the other two I've had were Le Tourment and Absente, Isn't saying much at all.

I'm glad it came up, as I've revisited it myself several times in the last week, enjoying it more than even before. I've been meaning to edit my review accordingly.

You know, having had a few glasses, I'm going to say it's not bad. In fact, I'd say it's actually enjoyable. I can think of a good seven or eight bottles that I've tried I would easily choose over Abyss, but none of those bottles come in a small 50ml package, either.
