1883 engraving

Recommended Posts

I was lucky enough to find this great piece, an actual page from an 1883 issue of La Monde Illustré!

It was torn from the newspaper, but is in great shape except for the crease where the paper was folded in half. It depicts absinthe's battle quite well. The artist is Darré. I find the "Infanticide" at the bottom particularly amazing. Man the things they did to make absinthe go away!

And their descendents use the same tactics against tobacco and fatty foods.

The more things change.......

You need to see if that can be made into some nice high quality prints.

Yeah, nothing like throwing a toddler off a bridge to rally public hatred of something. Not unlike tactics currently being used by a certain group of politicians. It seems we never learn!

Here's a historic example of JUST what we are going thru now!

"Of course the people dont want war...that is understood. But voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country." -- Hermann Goering
