Lord Peter Whimsey...

Recommended Posts

My wife and I were watching an old 1987 BBC dramatization of Dorothy Sayers' "Strong Poison," and to my surprise in one scene I saw servant pour a glass of yellow-green spirit, to which she added water. It wasn't so much a power louche as an "insta-louche," but given that the drinker was an aging actress/dancer (with a slightly scandalous reputation, in her day), I assume the drink was meant to be taken to be absinthe.

The Lord Peter mysteries are set in the 1920s, so post ban, but that would fit. No idea what the producers actually used to create the effect, of course.

Anyone ever see this scene?
