This is a double post for some reason...don't know how that happened. Delete it if you want!

This is an ABSINTHE website? Crap! All this time I thought It was about abstinence!

We’re number one?!? I didn’t need a thread to tell me that!

Congrats to us and our cause!

An unfortunate juxtaposition. I'm just sayin'! :pirate: But thanks again to all of the vets of the site. It is really awesome to have so much information in one place. There's so much garbage on the "intar-toobz", but you all keep it real. It's also nice that some of the people associated with various distilleries pop in and give updates. It really keeps the excitement up.
So far, I've experienced and prefer in this order:
1.) Jade Nouvelle-Orleans
2.) La Clandestine
3.) Lucid

Holy Crap! Did I just see the Naked Bottom with Butterfly? Nice to see you around, Nymphadora.

Congrats, Hiram, and thank you, for a great forum...I think you've really made a difference with this effort.

Edit: I think this calls for one more glass, by way of celebration...yes, I think it does.

Thanks and cheers, y'all! I feel wicked smaht thanks to the site and forum, even if I'm still working on staying cool in the face of ign'ance.

I'm pleased to announce that The Wormwood Society has just admitted its 2000th member!

I'll gladly congratulate you on the large membership (an achievement that is undoubtedly the result of a lot of hard work and dedication).

I'm not particularly fond of your claim to be "Number One", though. It's unnecessarily competitive when in fact there is no competitive landscape.

It's just like trying to define "the best" Argentine tango couple: you can't define a "number one" unless you also define a scale, and defining a scale is necessarily reductionist, and as soon as someone tries to define "who's best" I feel an almost irrepressible urge to whack him over the head with a fish (and in that particular case it also shows they haven't got a clue about Argentine tango, but I digress).

There isn't a "Number One" forum in my mind any more than there is a human being worth more than all the others. I think that we humans should sometimes let go of our obsession to rank everything on a one-dimensional scale.

Noted.

It's unnecessarily competitive when in fact there is no competitive landscape.

I'd disagree with that statement, given several of the conversations held elsewhere about the same topic. If it weren't important, then the phrase "The Oldest, Largest, Most Authoritative Absinthe Forum." would never have come into existence.

You know that I find some of the behaviour elsewhere with regard to this forum as just as infantile.

If you'll forgive me the expression, It's not because some people can't resist pissing contests that pissing contests somehow make sense. "Us vs. Them" is a very powerful meme, but I have little sympathy for it, and it has done more harm than good.

I don't disagree, which is why I've maintained many times that we're all on the same team and that there are better fights to be fought.

I believe most of us would agree and add that discretion may be the better part of valor, but after a few years of WS being the laughingstock of a vocal few, it feels pretty good to have our little celebration. It's no big deal.

Any insults flung at other absinthe forums from WS members are few and far between. Generally, this forum functions with more than a fair amount of decorum even in the face of insult.

Hell, the decorum has been the basis of many of the insults.

Agreed. And I'll forgive you the expression, but not the redundant capitalization.

You know that I find some of the behaviour elsewhere with regard to this forum as just as infantile.

I didn't know that, but I appreciate you mentioning it.

It's gotta have enough elevation to provide the proper climate for alpine herbs (and my snowboard) so the perpetual cold stream is a safe bet!

Count me out. Born and raised in the FLA, and never looked back when I left. Actually, it's not ALL bad, but enough of it sucks so that I'd never live there again.

But if we're taking islands, start with Marco Island.

Pitcairn for this lil' kitty. Just displace the locals, and move on in. They're used to a good old fashioned mutiny anyway.
