Mystery Swiss Absinthe

Recommended Posts

I picked up a bottle (actually two...one was Angelique) of a mystery Absinthe.

Legally made and sold by a Davide Cadenazzi of Corteglia, CH.

It's a Blanche at 53% and the bottle is dated 2005.

Not cheap at 55 Swiss francs but worth a shot.

I will upload a bottle photo when I return home.

If you know who made it, why is it a mystery absinthe?

L-O-L

I meant that it was from a non "name brand" source.

That and "mystery" sounds sexier.

Got it.

Pics?

I'm posting from an iPhone overseas and the data charges are high so pics will have to wait until Tuesday when I return.

If I can manage a day off so close to coming back from vacation, Ill bring it with me to the EC gathering.

Off to bed (it's 10:30 here).

Handgliding in the morning!!

There's this thing called a wireless network. We _do_ have them here in Switzerland. Allows you to upload photos more quickly and inexpensively.

Whatever you do, open the bottle and take a whiff or a taste at some point BEFORE putting it up for sale in a store.

Man....tough crowd.

When I can, I connect free wifi, but most of the networks here are secured so I cannot connect.

I asked the owners if they tasted either the Angelique or the other and they had not.

Well....it's mine now....good, bad, or ugly.

Man....tough crowd.

I was thinking the same thing...

In any case, I'm glad you were able to snatch up a rare find, my friend! In the meantime, have you uncorked and given it a quick whiff yet? Perhaps that will be a little preview for ya.

You think I'm sensitive?

Sensitive how?

I took everyone's remarks as tounge in cheek......No offense taken at all.

I have read enough here to get the lay of the land.

Well, I opened the bottle last night and had a whiff.

I did not take a glass because I had been out with a some friends and we had a bit of beer. Work the next day and all....

Compared to the Angelique (which smelled quite nice when initially opened), this one had a lighter, flatter smell if that makes sense. It did not have as sweet of a smell. Not bad, just not as "complex" as the Angelique when both were uncorked.

I am planning on a glass this evening so we shall see.....

An admirable quality that lots of us could foster and I am sure, you are quite correct.

It sounds like you have enjoyed an excellent adventure.

On it's initial opening (September 9), it had a rather flat smell, not something I would call sweet.

It is dated 2005 so it has had 4 years in the bottle.

I uncorked it tonight to have a smell.

The aroma has changed into a nice semi-sweet smell, with hints of mint (?) and what I would call a faint bitterness in the background. Something definitely changed for the better. It seems to have opened up if that makes sense.

I'm having a bit tomorrow night (had a tall beer with dinner and there's work tomorrow....)

Will post a review and photo tomorrow evening.

Here are the bottle photos.

Sorry about the glare on the label, it is silver (obviously) and the reflections were high.

it looks empty... how was it?

It's not empty.

It's a blanche.

Look right below the neck of the bottle....
