If anyone has some nice, hi res pics of anything that they think might be good for the Mutineer article, please send them my way. Sooner the better as they go to layout this week.

OK, I don't know why I didn't do this before, but I've finally created a Wormwood Society Image Repository on Flikr.

If you have a flikr account, please feel free to submit any images you have regarding absinthe and/or absinthe related themes/parties, etc on the site. If you don't have a flikr account, but want pics uploaded, email them to me and I'll post them.

Not only will this be a great way to keep track of the hundreds of pictures that are taken by us all, but it will make it much much easier for us to find pics of themes we need for publications.

As mentioned in the terms, credit will be given to the submitting member.

Submit away!

P.S. - They don't all have to be 'publication worthy'. We'll obviously exercise discretion over which to submit to magazines etc.

Follow up:

I think a few of the New Orleans pics aren't from me, but I don't know which ones. If there's anything there that I've posted that the photographer wants me to take down, feel free to PM me and I'll do so.

Added some generally useful shots from Pontarlier, the Pernot Distillery, the Mätter Distillery, the Hangar One Distillery, and that picture of ejellest serving Marteau at the Alembic bar.

I added a bunch o'shots. Please forgive the amateurish nature of some of them (I just figured out that turning the date stamp off for FlickR was a good idea), but I figured they might be appropriate for a WS photo repository.

A replica of the original (sans Napoleon). Is the replica part of Mr. Bordelon's collection, or was the pic taken at The Absinthe Museum?

Just a thought. The WS Flickr repository might be a great way to submit photos for inclusion in the 2010 WS Calendar, no?

I'm on the calendar committee, and I was thinking about that as I flipped to May this week. I love this month's shot by DannyHawaii, and I can't wait to get going on the project for next year!

I agree. I think any pic that someone would want to submit or post on this site, for any reason, would be great to include there. I'd love to have a single repository for everything.

Beats me, Brooks, but I think it's beautiful regardless.

Yes to both. Ray's replica now resides in the museum.

Anyone know the material? I've done some extensive research (google image search tool) with "Green Marble" and "Green Granite" and found results that both look similar.

Aw, yeah. Nappy be itty-bitty.

The original is marble. The replica looks like wood with a faux marbre finish. For display only, is my guess.

I'd like to make the suggestion that if you place photos into the repository for possible use, either by us, or by any journalists empowered to use our photography, you should tag them with fairly specific comments about what is shown.

For example, Green Baron has included a shot of a certain copper alembic that may be recognizable to those of us here who have been following along obsessively, but not at all familiar to journalists who may wish to use it to illustrate an article on said distillery.

Same goes for louched glass photos. There are already a lot of pictures of glasses of absinthe, both louched and neat. If these shots are going to be useful to the world at large, it would be nice to know what's in the glass. Then the various colors and qualities become reference material about the various brands. I know many seem to stand alone as "art", but they can still be useful as "illustrations".

It may seem like a minor hassle to take the extra time, but it would really maximize the utility of the repository. The weird thing is that it might not be obvious how to do it. When I select an image I've uploaded to Flickr, it looks as though I have to click "add a comment", which will then appear in a separate comment box under the picture. But in fact, as I move my mouse over the photo, a new message appears which, if I click on it, allows me to enter a caption, which then appears directly under the photo as a single unit. This is true even if the photo was uploaded months ago.

Wasn't PTing the FA on this one for a lil' bit. I've updated the caption for that still to hopefully make it more informative.

I'm almost done updating my Absinthe folder that I have on Facebook. If the WS wants to use any of those pics in the future, feel free. I think I have higher res versions too if needed. Most aren't anything to write home about and none of them fit the criteria that's given in the initial post, but there's a few good ones in there.

Maybe their best use will be as calendar submissions for 2012?
