I wish I had found this site earlier.

About two years ago I read an article in the local paper that commercial absinthe would soon be available in my area. Despite the fact that I had been very interested in trying absinthe since about 1998, I didn't pick up a bottle until this past weekend.

Or at least I thought it was absinthe.

Here's something to add to your list of things not to do. Don't walk into an ABC store (our local regulated package stores in NC) and ask, "Hey, do you have any absinthe?"

My first answer was, "Ab, what?"

My second answer was, "Why yes we do," and the clerk proceeded to direct me to a rack of Absente - Absinthe Redefined. And this was the only offering the store had.

While I like the Absente (the bottle is half-empty (half-full?)), I got the impression that it's not a real absinthe.

Anyway, I have a recommended selection of absinthes (culled from the forums) from DrinkUpNY.com arriving tomorrow.

Oh, by the way, it's great to be here. :)

What part of NC? I'm in Raleigh.

Fayetteville. I only wish I was back in Raleigh.

Also, I'm partaking of the Obsello right now with a few friends. The difference is astounding...like one note versus a composition.

And I'll stop with the similes right there. My palate is too new.

Welcome, seems like you picked a good time to jump in. Some interesting things going on stateside, still some good offerings from overseas, and the dollar is doing ever so slightly better against the Euro and Pound, from what I read.

Coincidentally, I'm headed down to Fayetteville on Tuesday.

As a former Asheville resident for 15 years, I feel your pain. Welcome and please keep preaching to those ABC retards... some of them may not be so stupid
