Boorsma
Ferdinand Bolstraat 112
1072 LP Amsterdam
020 - 679 33 04

A large selection, but mostly crap. Kübler, Absente and Versinthe are about the best you'll find.

Overmars
Hoofddorpplein 11
1059CV Amsterdam

A decent selection including Duplais and Helfrich

Boorsma has Helfrich as well. I also supplied him with a case of Mansinthe a while ago but it's the total crap that sells the best in Amsterdam. (That Overmars still has Duplais isn't very hopeful...)

I was recently in Amsterdam. You can find alot of garbage absinthe at the various liquor stores. It's really cool when you don't know better, and then you take a sip and instantly - you know better. ;) The bright green stuff marked "Extra Strong" sitting in the front window is not the stuff to get.

There is also a bar in the 'Dam which serves absinthe. Called simply, Absinthe. I set out to find it one night but was alas sidetracked by the various nearby coffeeshops. But this is the address:

Absinthe Nightbar
Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 171
1012 RK Amsterdam, Netherlands

well, I went up and down the entire length of the Niewezijds Voorburgwal and found no such venue. I did find a coffeshop called Abraxas in the area where it should have been which was too overpriced for me to do a formal evaluation. So it is either unmarked or no longer exists.

Boorsma has Akveld(Helfrich)--both blanche and verte, Duplais, Nouvelle Vague, Jade Edouard, and a bunch o'crap that I cannot remember.

I also ran across a wine shop called Quinta, right near the Anne Frank House across the Prinsengracht. They had some samples of bright colored crap in the window, as well as François Guy verte and blanche and Monmarte. The guy did a lil'presentation in the back that was a curious mix of thujone hype and actual historical fact. His examples of Real Absinthe featured the aforementioned brands and *cough* Mata Hari and some clear "absinthe Liqueur" that bears no more mention than the fact that it exists.

correction. it is not Eddy, it's Nouvelle Orleans, and I don't know what it is that makes me keep switching those two around. It's been happening for a couple years now. Boorsma also has Libertine, two flavors, but I was more interested in the Akveld. Anyway, sorry bout that....

I visited "absinthe" when I was there in 2006.  I was staying right
around the corner and ended up going there pretty much every night.

BTW:  I'm using this old thread to help me learn to quote cleanly...  I hope y'all don't mind. ;)
