I have included these that are currently available, whereas L'Artisanale stays still on top of other lists and everyone is happy, I believe. As you noticed, I have excluded C.F. Berger as well despite the fact I consider it to be the pinnacle of absinthe art.

The sample of Verte de Fougerolles I had in 2008 tasted a lot better than what I've seen rated in 2005-06. The same applies to Leopold Bros. Absinthe Verte I suppose. Batch #4 certainly isn't batch #10. Makes you wonder what we might be missing based on an old score... or what we might be buying.

The Taboo Gold is by no means bad, just a bit eccentric and overpowering in some areas relative to a tradditonal absinthe... which, for some, may be a good thing.

Neph makes a good point. It's a smart idea to update reviews.

I just realized today that my rating for Serpis was higher than my rating for Obsello, which obviously wasn't right. That was for two reasons:

1) My Serpis review was done ages ago, and only transcribed onto the site recently. It was done before a lot of the good brands we have now had come out. Back then, it was a pretty reputable brand. Now, I wouldn't say it would even break my top 30.

2) The Obsello review was based on a sample I received when it first came out, which had some small flaws that seriously affected the review. I have a new bottle coming, one that has had some tweaks. I will be updating my review based on that as soon as I get it.

I'll also be updating my Leopold review when the new stuff comes in.

Upgraded. Leopold Bros. is becoming more seductive each time I drink it. Like L'Italienne, Leopold Bros. leaves a beautiful white lily / honeysuckle smell hours after the glass is empty... possibly longer. The 2 are very different other than this so it's really not fair to compare them.

The Leopold Bros. has a much creamier mouth feel, less astringent and more herbal than floral. I'm assuming the Pisco/Muscat base is giving the other botanicals a floral pop. Even the wormwood smells a bit flowery. No perfume, just soft floral notes. There's a whiff of coriander too.

1. Leopold Bros. Verte (batch #10)

2. L'Italienne

3. Doubs Mystique

Hey, Tansyman...

So, Belle Amie went from first to nonexistent on your list?

What a crock of :poop:

And don't tell me it's not a currently available commercial product, cuz it wasn't in August, either.

I've got to try some Helfrich Verte next

Yes, you really do. I personally need to try the blanche, I've heard it's wonderful as well.

I think I've had enough absinthe's to make my top 10 list now:

1. Belle Amie

2. Jade Nouvelle-Orleans

3. Marteau

4. 1797 Roquette

5. L'Italienne

6. Doubs Mystique

7. Helfrich Verte

8. Blanchette

9. Duplais Verte

10. Eichelberger 68 Verte

Honorable Mention: Segarra 45 (under-rated)

Yet to try:

La Coquette

Twin Tec

Absinthe Promethee

Although there really isn't the slightest connection between the two, except the Doubs name, and the somewhat tonic-y quality, although it takes a much, much, much nicer form in the Mystique.
