From Storm of Swords, book 3 of the Song of Ice and Fire Saga.

Page 913 (trade paperback edition): "I gave you the maiden's gift. I would have given you a son too, but they murdered him with moon tea, with tansy and mint and wormwood, a spoon of honey and a drop of pennyroyal. It wasn't me, I never knew, I only drank what Father gave me..."

George R. R. Martin mentions it in "Fevre Dream" as well...again, literature in a very broad sense.

It may not be literature but it's on my shelf.
Litany against fear of Absinthe - I must not fear Absinthe. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my Absinthe. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the Absinthe has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

The Song of Ice and Fire is heads and tales above the Robert Jordan series.

I read the first 5 of RJs books, but I refuse to buy another until he has verifiably published the last book in the series.

I heard he was quite ill and may not finish.
