volpane Report post Posted May 5, 2006 Thank you all for all your well wishes! And especial thanks to Auguru for the photo of lovely pink blossoms of an orchid or something similar...can you inform us of its taxinomy?
Auguru Report post Posted May 6, 2006 Actually, it is a close-up of one of my Hoya carnosa (wax plant) blossoms. If I draw back a bit, you can see what the umbel/cluster looks like. One thing I really like (besides the whole wax/velvet look) is that the blossoms smell like chocolate. Really! I had one of these in college and it drew people from throughout the dorm when it was in bloom! My current specimen takes up the whole corner of our bedroom window, but it is spectacular this time of year...
Gwydion Stone Report post Posted May 6, 2006 I haven't seen one of those since I was a kid in Florida. A relative had a big tree in his yard and they smelled amazing! I didn't know they could be grown as houseplants.

volpane Report post Posted May 7, 2006 They are very lovely. You describe it as smelling like chocolate...some might suggest it smelled more like vanilla. I would say it smelled like wax plant blossoms.
volpane Report post Posted May 7, 2006 And thank you, Brooks...I've been meaning to ask after your icon. It's an interesting image; I've always loved the architecture of the Chrysler building.
