Gwydion Stone Report post Posted December 21, 2004 Oxygenee posted this over at Fee Verte back in August. I thought given the discussion of fountains and dripping techniques going on currently, it may be of interest to our newer members.

Jack B Report post Posted December 23, 2004 I think this author of this article was mocking the French a bit by exaggerating just slightly.
MrGreenGenes Report post Posted December 23, 2004 As he describes the French method, sampling all the great stuff at an absinthe party would take a whole week.
Gwydion Stone Report post Posted December 23, 2004 I agree with Jack. Besides, what if you don't have a cane?
Jack B Report post Posted December 23, 2004 A frenchman without a cane? If you were in a bar/cafe/whatever at room temperature, your Absinthe would be quite warm after 1/2 hour.
MrGreenGenes Report post Posted December 23, 2004 (edited) Doesn't Markus or Betty or someone offer absinthe canes on their site? Edited December 23, 2004 by MrGreenGenes

G&C Report post Posted December 28, 2004 The Lautrec cane holds only one ounce of your favorite. I rec'd an email from Alicia at Saddler. Hi G&C - Thanks for your note and your interest in our products. The flask in the walking stick looks like a test tube and is about 1 oz....roughly the equivalent of a shot glass. Alicia I agree. The Barnabas cane is much more cool! I always liked that guy.
Gwydion Stone Report post Posted December 28, 2004 Dark Shadows rules. I've always wanted a Barnabas cane (even though this one doesn't hold booze). It would go so well with my Count Chocula outfit. Interesting note about the Barnabas ring repro: When I interviewed Jonathan in 1991, he told me, "All these fans now have expensive onyx rings, and the original on the show wasn't even onyx! It was a green, cheap, Woolworth's thing and they painted it black. It was a tacky old thing." The ring was reproduced in 1998 and sold by MPI Media Group. It's being sold in a commemorative box -- but the 1960s version didn't come in any special container.
thegreenimp Report post Posted December 29, 2004 I had one of the originals they sold when I was eleven years old. (when the series was big in the late 60's) I remember it cost the huge sum of one dollar, and it was pretty cheesy even back then. The original packaging is probably worth more these days, than the ring was worth. (As I recall, it turned my finger green, and the ring fell apart pretty quickly) Too bad Warner Bros. blew the pilot for the remake this year, they were going to resurrect the series, but apparently D.S. has been staked for the foreseeable future. P.S. You need a double breasted late 60's suit, (cane) and an Inverness cape to do a proper Barnabas. http://www.invernesscapes.co.uk/
Oxygenee Report post Posted January 4, 2005 I've always wanted a Barnabas cane <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Of course, if you're serious about canes, M.S. Rau in New Orleans is the only game in town. http://www.rauantiques.com/canes.asp

Robert (DrinkBoy) Hess Report post Posted March 24, 2005 ...You need a ... Inverness cape to do a proper Barnabas.http://www.invernesscapes.co.uk/ While we're on the subject of Dark Shadows: I've got the cane, and keep meaning to pick up an Inverness Cape/Cloak... here is the source I was looking at for this: http://www.bodyhangings.com/inverness.html Another source for "period" ware that I've been meaning to place an order with is this one: http://www.gentlemansemporium.com -Robert
Grey Boy Report post Posted March 24, 2005 Look up "sutler" or "sutlery" on the web. You'll find American Civil War period clothing, accesories, etc.... Lots of soldier wear, but most sites carry excellent civilian clothes. I have some links but they're on my work computer, I'll post them tomorrow.

Grey Boy Report post Posted March 31, 2005 OK, I need to PTFA. Yes, the PO was finally visited today. As for links: Blockade Runner has some excellent jackets & frocks. C&C, more frocks and shirts. R&K some nice vests and shirts under civilian clothing. Wah Maker is definitely the largest and best reatailer for just about everything. One of the few places I've been able to find collarless shirts.
