  1. I've been to Golden Temple, Charlemagne, and that Starbucks before. I'm slowly (slowly) writing a novel that takes place in 5 points and UAB. Had to take several trips to Birmingham for site sources. Sloss Furnace too. Great setting for a horror novel. Next time I'm in Birmingham I will let you know, Peridot. I try to go once a year and my last trip was back in December, when it ended up being like 20 degrees while I was walking around UAB campus taking pictures. I liked Cloud Nine as well. Nothing quite like it here in Jackson. We have a place called Shaggy's, but not as interesting.
  2. I actually watched it about 2 weeks ago. I saw it in a double feature with Last Man on Earth at walmart for 5 bucks. Had to get it. I also liked Throne of Blood. But yeah, only if you're into that Shakespeare stuff.
  3. The Thing is one of my all time favorites. Lynch's Dune is one of my all time favorites. Echo?
  4. I'd go with the older brother (I'd rather almost call it completely nonrelated distant cousing) any day. I am Legend completely destroyed the intent of the book. Last Man stayed true to the book, and it had Vincent Price. Speaking of The Descent, I saw Pandorum last week. It wasn't what I was expecting at all from the trailer. Not bad. Not life changing. It's very much a cross between The Descent and Event Horizon.
  5. The Killer Shrews, starring Festus himself James Best. Mystery Science Theater 3000 did this movie. One of my favorite episodes, but this is just the movie in all it's grandeur.
  6. Going to college in Alabama compared to Mississippi might not have been a bad choice at all. I am currently working on an absinthe group of locals. We're up to three right now. If you know anyone in the area that might be interested let me know.
  7. I hate to say it, but if it has to do with greens, gizzards, pig's feet, chitlins, grits, or any other soul food, I likely keep it at arm's length. I don't eat like a southern boy. I'm much better with some chicken sauteed with soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, buckwheat honey, and white onion served over a bed of steamed rice.
  8. I'm not sure the first time I encountered absinthe, but I'm pretty sure it was when I first started researching my Irish heritage. Irish lead to tuatha de danann, lead to faeries in general, lead to green faeries, lead to absinthe. My first official introduction was in college while studying romantic literature and dating an art major. What part of Mississippi or Alabama? I am in Jackson, and the other MIssissippi guy just moved to Missouri. We are underrepresented, especially compared to all those Montanians, or whatever they refer to themselves as.
  9. Yeah, but you want to pull for the Cardinals. Trust me.
  10. heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeello
  11. always good to know who is lurking about. Welcome.
  12. I finally find the other Mississippi guy only to find you are moving. Sorry to hear that. There are many, many better places to live than Mississippi. It's just as hot and humid there in the summer, especially St. Louis. But they have the Cardinals, and that's way better than the Mississippi Braves. Good luck to you.
  13. I hope it's actual Kona coffee. The stuff is very expensive, and not regulated at all by the FDA. You could have three Kona beans in a mix of Columbian coffee and call it Kona. I believe when Starbucks came out with a seasonal Kona a couple of years ago it only had 7 ot 10% Kona. But being out west the odds of getting the Kona at a more reasonable price are a little higher. It's good stuff. Just beware of anyone that sells it as Kona Blend. You are probably getting ripped off.
