Full Version: The Day All Absinthes Are Sold Equally Is...

Okay I am a little annoyed right now. I'm coming on the end of some very good absinthes in my possession such as (Peroqquet, Jade1901, Roquette, La Coquette, Doubs Mysitique, Viex Pontarlier). As you can see I am a sucker for the Emile Distillery. It's sad, and yes I can buy more, but I grow tired of waiting for it to arrive in the mail. Sometimes I get envious thinking how people in Europe can just go to their local liqueur store and have the same selection of Absinthe as we do Whiskey and just buy it on a whim with no delay. Arghhhhh, instant satisfaction. So my question is.--Is there ever going to be a day when America stops getting its panties all up in a bunch and lets more of the European brands migrate to the states? Or is it just wishful thinking?

Like hell we do... Save for Vert d'Absinthe, there is nowhere I can get instant satisfaction. And it's a damn small shop in Paris.
Did you really think you could grab absinthe at your local Kwik-e-mart in France ? Tough luck ~_~

I'm pretty sure there are more brands available for sale in the US than anywhere else in the world. The problem in the US is the three tier system. You only get what wholesalers allow on your retail shelves. If they choose not to buy and distribute a product, then it doesn't end up on retail shelves.

The largest selection I've seen in a store was at Binny's. I didn't say the best selection but they had several decent brands. If you live in Colorado then Leopold Bros. should be fairly easy to snag. Try their liqeures. Yumm-o!*

Yup. Online is still the best selection here in England. All my webshop stuff comes from the mainland and saying that, 'respectable' selection is nearly impossible to find in any EU bricks-n-mortar. You'll find several 'tourist' brands (often in frightening colours) but face to face browsing of the better stuff is very hard to come by.

+1, the only absinthe for sale in shops here is equivalent to wd40.

however the online shops are quick and shipping is negligible. So good european absinthe is easy to get. Try and get some U.S absinthe though and you better brace yourself and grab your ankles

I always place my orders when my supply hits the equivalent of one bottle left, and usually sooner then that. This way im never without, the order always arrives just in time.

The grass really isn't that green here, you know. If we want decent prices, we have to get them from the same places as you do (Markus Lion, Luc from l'Heure Verte, Liqueurs de France and others), unless we drive to somewhere which I wouldn't qualify is "local".

The difference is that it gets here fast (Deutsche Post ships to Belgium before you can bat an eyelid) and it's all perfectly legit even without any customs hassles.

So I gather from everybody's responses that the answer to my question is "not likely". That's sad to know that its not any better in Europe either. I had no idea. I just assumed because that's where it is made. I have had Leopold Bros. and I can find it quite easily in many liqueur stores in and around Denver, so I naturally assumed it would be the same way in Europe. Oh well, I will just keep on wishing.
