Just received a bottle of Aderlass, a new absinthe by Matter made for Aderlass, a goth clothing line from Germany. I'm just having my first glass so I don't want to say too much. First impression is that it is very similar to Mansinthe. There are some slight differences that I notice so far. There is a herb in Mansinthe, I'm not sure what it is, but it is very forward, has a fresh clean taste and is slightly floral. (reminds me of fresh crisp water for some reason). This herb seems to be more present in the Aderlass. It also seems to be more bitter. I will add more comments when I've sampled some more. I would also like to do a side by side with this and Mansinthe. Definitely a good absinthe though as you would expect from Matter.

I did a side by side and they are still very similar but not as similar as I originally perceived. My bottle of Mansinthe has been open for a bit. As far as colour the Aderlass is more green, but not as green as Duplais Verte. The Mansinthe green is lighter. As far as aroma the Aderlass is more floral. Alcohol is more present in the aroma of Mansinthe, this is after water by the way. As I mentioned above, there is a herb that is very forward in Mansinthe and even more forward in the Aderlass, but now when sampling both side by side I can barely detect that herb in the Mansinthe since it is so strong in the Aderlass. Not a bad thing though. Over all the Mansinthe is a bit more balanced, where the Aderlass has a strong taste of that one herb that is spicy, floral and very crisp and fresh (I wish I knew what that herb was).

All in all the Aderlass is a very good absinthe. Comparable if not better than Mansinthe. For me they are too similar to decide which one is better. It will be interesting to hear what others think about this new absinthe from Matter.

The Aderlass Absinthe was a product commissioned to one particular client. Since they could sell their product much better than we could, we first decided to exclusively sell it to them. Unfortunately after a while some business problems occurred, so we stopped producing and selling it about 1 year ago.

The base structure was similar to Mansinthe, so that's the reason for similarities. It was a nice product and if you're collecting Matter products, you should get your bottle soon - there will be no more.

I didn't know there was a limited amount. Thanks for letting me know. I will definitely buy some more while its available.
