This one looks turn of the century to me, perhaps older...I'm no expert however. It does have the deep
conical pontil in the bottom, the slipped on ring over the neck, and a slight taper as it goes to the bottom.
I figured it could be 1870-early 1900s? Experts? Whaddya think? Dirt stuck in the pontil from being buried, traces of lead foil on neck. Wavy possibly hand-blown irregularities. Too bad no label!
Thanks!

Label or no, it's still a nice bottle. I'm not an expert on anything but I like the old bottles.

Almost certainly pre-1900, and definitely pre-ban.

Only you and your pocket book can decide if it was worth the 50 bucks. I have a couple of them. I used to have three.

It just seemed like a nice thing to have, and I imagine they are getting harder to find. We pay $55 to over a hundred for a bottle with absinthe in it after all...This one may be empty, but it represents an era past...
I find comfort and magic in such things...call me a romantic...at least one that's $50 poorer now. If any of you know enough about these to date it, I'd love to know.

Cost and worth are not the same thing, but you didn't get rooked, if that's what you mean.

I would pay $50.00 for a add to my collection.
I recently saw a smaller Pernod bottle sale on Ebay for over 67 Euros.

Meh, my sis loves to call me a snit. She has other names for me which are much worse and equally accurate.
Funny stories are best left to recanting around a fire ring by a good raconteur. Consider that your invitation to a drink and poking the fire. Suffice to say, there was a very innocent accident and sincere concern by a good friend, all of which had me in stitches.

I payed between $5 and $10 for the two I've owned, but I'm an antiques dealer and we're notoriously cheap and shifty.

I'd never sell that scary clown anything...He doesn't instill trust.
My folks were in the antique biz for years. It's amazing how things fall into your lap...stuff in boxes, estate sales etc...A box of bottles could have 2 nice pieces and 20 useless ones and you buy the whole box for $10. You can still be straight with people and score lots of goodies.

The blob seal indicates that it is a preban PF bottle. The line going straight down to the right of the seal tells me that it was blown into a mold. Probably early 1900s. PV knows much more about this stuff than I do.
Back in the 1960s hippies used to turn old Absinthe bottles into candle holders and would cover them with melted wax.

In twenty three years of doing business, I've never been anything else, even with people I didn't like.
The important thing is to let the seller set his or her price, and then see if there's any room for bargaining.
In cases where the seller insists on the offer coming from me, I always try to strike a balancewe both can live with, but I often don't end up with as big a profit margin.

Actually, there is no line on the bottle, that's a reflection...there are no mold lines anywhere...just subtle horizontal ripples going around the whole way down....The pontil is all lumpy and uneven as well...this could be hand-blown.

I just scored another older one on ebay...tapered from shoulders to bottom, clearly hand-blown, ripples and bubbles...$9.99. No label, but it still had a faint absinthe smell in the bottle.
One has to wonder where that absinthe went recently to still have a faint aroma.
