I got one from
Absinthiana and when it arrived, I immediately discovered a flaw in the construction of the modern reproduction unit. There is no taper at the end of the tube, it's just open, making the orifice way too large. When you fill it with absinthe, it flows so fast that you cannot reasonably fill the reservoir. The entire process takes about two seconds. The original has a taper at the end of the tube with a small orifice about 1/20th of an inch (about 0.13cm) in diameter which restricts the flow considerably allowing a nice, slow mix and subsequent louche. I found a small plastic cap that fits over the tube and drilled a small orifice in it so now the modern repro spike brouilleur functions as it should. It's quite novel and makes for some interesting table theatre.
NOTE: When using this brouilleur, you'll need to pre-sweeten the water, add syrup later, or drink the finished product un-sweetened.
