So I'm going to be in Detroit tomorrow night. Does anybody have any tips on where I could pick up a good bottle of absinthe in that area? I'm particularly interesting in finding myself a bottle of Marteau or Vieux Pontarlier. Are there any shops worth checking out?

Thanks, guys!

I don't live in Detroit, but as a Michigan resident who has checked at LEAST 60-70 stores, I can tell you that this state has not caught on to absinthe yet. Hell, we don't even have Kübler around here yet, much less Vieux Pontarlier. It's all Pernod, Lucid, and Grande Absente in these parts. Assuming the liquor store is even aware of what absinthe is, of course. I've gotten more blank stares in the past year than I've had in my lifetime...

Not that it has anything to do with Detroit, but the store down the road from me does seem to want to carry whatever can be gotten in Michigan, regularly stocking the St. George in addition to the Lucid, whilst avoiding the Absente.

As for Motown though, sorry you have to go there.

Not for bottle-shopping, but go to Cliff Bells, a jazz bar right near the stadiums in downtown. GREAT atmosphere, the best live jazz in town... and they REALLY know their cocktails there- including a good sazerac.

I'll have to keep that bar in mind. I'll be up there in April.
