I don't know if they (Tuthilltown guys) ever got around to making a batch. It's remarkable how much can change in a year.
I spoke to him early this year and if memory serves, I believe he indicated that things didn't work out. Perhaps in light of recent developments, he should reconsider. Reading through that post, it is very ironic how things turned out given peoples feelings/opinions then.

One of the main points when you read M. Pillet's testimony, is the variance in outcomes one can get when following a "recipe." Give two distillers the same absinthe/gin/whatever recipe, ask them to make it, and you will get two different things. Both will be recognizable as absinthe/gin/whatever, but the variances in ingredient sourcing, equipment, expertise, etc., will have a marked effect on the final product. That's one of the reasons why Jade PF1901 is somewhat recognizable as a Pernod Fils-like absinthe, but falls way short of being called a "clone."

The chartreuse recipe is only known by 3 monks sworn to secrecy!
Actually to two and it is not marketing assuming since when monks (benedictines, trappistes, capucines) deal with spirits (herbal liqueurs in the first place).
What is a marketing, however is boasting of 130 ingredients what has been questioned several times as some of the ingredients had to be removed from the recipe. For the colouration of Chartreuse verte three ingredients are believed to be used: tansy, saffron and spinach.

Hmmm, this is great news for the guy who likes to sit back with some good Absinthe and his sweetheart and/or some friends. I am so happy for you Hiram as I am for anyone I like who gets to do something that they love, are good at, and benefits humanity.
And just think... I have a quasi prototype t-shirt. How cool is that?

Thanks, Stomp. I have no idea what it will take to get it into Canada, but once I've got the US down, I'll sure try it.
In the meantime, Okanagan Spirits' Frank Dietrich is doing a fine job on his first absinthe. Mighty tasty and really affordable.

$55 cdn for 375 ml? I don't want to get into a big debate here, compared to Jade and the like, but even using Lucid as a benchmark that's pretty darn pricey to me.

Wow, that's a lot more than I had heard it was going to be, but still, Jade is around $145USD per liter and the Okanagan is about $136USD per liter, not incuding shipping. Lucid is $80 a liter.

One might think that Wray (being the deviant that he is) had a clock that was
ALWAYS set for that time but it really does work! It was just serendipity that he took the photo at that time.
We took the Marteau to Vegas over the weekend and it was tasty...very tasty.

If I am remebering corectly the Prototype 33 was an early version of Marteau (sorry if I have that wrong); because I wasn't a huge fan of the P33 I was on the fence as to whether I would order the Marteau or not. I ended up adding it because of the positive reviews and I am very happy that I did.
Marteau is worlds better than P33... color, smell, taste, everything; it is a really good absinthe.
Nicely done Hiram.

Get out... Prototype 33 was the first ever prototype I bought, and I liked it! In fact I still have the empty bottle (could be collectible one day, right?) So excuse the ignorance, and I know Hiram is loathe to go to the dark side (marketing) but is the Marteau now available somewhere?

Well I was kind of avoiding the thread as I thought it was still people sucking up to the boss (myself included) and that it was not actually available yet. *sigh* Now I suppose you are going to make me go through the thread, aren't you! You moderators live for this! Well it is time for a new order so I will be checking out my favorite merchants.
And you have to cut me some slack! All these new absinthes coming out, with all these Frencified names (it's like they have a different word for everything) makes it hard for me to keep track. Now if it had been named "Dr. Hiram's Hallacious Hooch" or something similar, I could wrap my American mind around it...
But I will be looking for it and accepting no substitutes.

Alright, I'm confused. Hiram announces he has an absinthe coming out, and it is congrats all around. Then it actually does come out, and there are very few references to it. where to buy, I like it I don't like it, etc. What is the dealy-o? I know Hiram said early on that he did not want the WS to be a marketing vehicle for his absinthe. So noted.
But jeez, we beat the Lucid thread into the ground, cat suits and everything, but I am not getting a warm and fuzzy off the Marteau. And I am sure it is not because it is horrendously bad, but I feel there is some political clamp-down going on. If it involves something legal or political stuff, ok, I understand. But a lot us of are emotionally involved in this (if we may be so bold) and I want to see discussion! I wan't to see the doctors weigh in, I want to see people say they love it, or hate it, or for the price, I would get..." Am I missing something?
This is what is called a MOMENT. Am I missing a thread or something?

Sorry to bust your chops, Printmkr, but it was only in fun.
The short story is, Marteau is now available at LdF and Marcus Lion. It. Is. Delicious!
I know there are a couple of reviews on the WS website. While it is nothing short of wonderful with a cold drip of spring water, it really shines in an Obituary Cocktail or Sazerac.
