After realizing how much I like GOOD absinthe, and dropping tons of money on gear and half a dozen bottles, I really needed to have a reference point. I'm getting in a sample of Pernod Fils 1914. There's some guy selling it to named "Deep Throat" and he's meeting me in an underground parking garage to do the deal. poke.gif Looking forward to this, as I suspect the reference of a true pre-ban, and the experience of trying it, will help me be a better and more informed absinthe drinker. The small loan officer at the the bank looked at me weird when I told him why I needed the money... Exciting stuff for me! Here's the appropriate pre-ban smiley: euro.gif

Obviously you're in for a treat. But if I may suggest, for a bit of fun and comparison, acquire yourself some of the Jade PF 1901 and do a side-by-side. I can't recall if that's one of the bottles you've already picked up or not.

Thanks Ron, that looks like a great absinthe. Yet to try, now on my list!

Well, the PF 1901 is a clone of preban Pernod Fils. So I think you'll be tickled by the side-by-side comparison. I did this with some preban Edouard and the Jade Edouard (clone) not so long ago.

It's my understanding it won't be that way for long. But yes, in the meanwhile you'd have to get some from the likes of LdF. They had a marvelous Christmas promotion that had free shipping for orders over £100. Keep your eyes peeled for deals like that.l

Yes, that was a good evening. abs-cheers.gif

Shipping? oh pish! Buy more bottles and it takes some of the sting out of the shipping. JMHO. *smile*

Hmmm, free advice free advice.....don't rush. Take your time and savor each subtle nuance to the best of your abilities. One of my problems, just one of many, is trying drinks in the many ways there are. Cold, cold and sipped so slow that it reaches room temp, sugar, no sugar, slow drip to small stream louche and so forth. The main thing is enjoy the booze. Enjoy it with a friend so you can discuss little things. Remember, this was free advice and worth exactly what you paid.

pretty much what all these guys said. I did the deed last year and have no regrets, though I'd doubtless appreciate it a good bit more now. But that's just the way it is.

I sat on my preban for a few months and I'm sure in that time you could hook up with at least a sample of the Jade PF. I'd volunteer one but my only remaining bottle has been in storage for almost a couple years now and opening it won't even be considered for at least a couple more. I've still got around half a dozen empties to console myself with, in a place of honor alongside the skulls of my (formerly) powerful enemies. dev-1.gif

What other bottles do you have? There has to be someone here who has some and is willing to do a sample swap.

Enjoy! abs-cheers.gif Don't everybody drink it all up before I get the nerve to buy one. Let's see, my youngest will be out of college in about 6 years, should have some funds freeing up at that time.
